When I am elected as your representative in Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District, you will always be able to count on me to be truthful and accountable for my decisions.
Tuesday’s State of the Union address was President Donald J. Trump’s opportunity to demonstrate that his administration, too, understands it is accountable. Instead, he spent a grueling 1 hour and 45 minutes during his State of the Union, unsuccessfully trying to persuade Americans that they are better off with him as president. He touted the One Big Beautiful Act, which provides the largest tax cut in American history for billionaires, and does nothing positive for the vast majority of Americans.
Trump continues to spew falsehoods about tariffs, affordability–a word he finds offensive–and health care. His policies have cut 2 million people—mostly children and families—from Medicaid this year alone, and he has decimated critical Medicare coverage for millions of seniors. His retaliatory tariffs have also alienated us from the rest of the world.
The question each of us must ask is simple: Are we better off than we were last year?
The answer is a resounding and obvious NO.
As your representative, I’ll put in the real, bipartisan work needed to make the policy changes that will lower your grocery, utility, and doctor bills. I’ll never forget that my allegiance is to you and the Constitution.
I understand why some of our neighbors have supported President Trump. Many feel left behind, frustrated with a system that has ignored their struggles for far too long. They are looking for someone who will deliver on promises. I will fight for them. I will listen to every constituent’s voice and advocate for them.
But Trump and his followers in Congress don’t care about you. While he lies to your face about the real state of the union, his self-serving policies and directives are costing Hoosier families more and more every day.
Ask yourself, what has Congressman Rudy Yakym done for you in the past year?
Did he advocate for the needs of his constituents? NO.
Did he speak up against the tariffs that have skyrocketed food costs and devastated Hoosier farmers? NO.
Did he vote for the One Big Beautiful Act, which removes the most vulnerable people from Medicaid, gives a tax break to billionaires, and will balloon the deficit by $3 trillion in the next decade? YES.
Like the president who puts himself before the American people, Rudy puts the president before his constituents. He has relinquished his power to a man with no moral compass, who lacks empathy and humanity.
Yesterday, Rudy’s office sent out a letter to the 2nd District that included a question Trump asked Democrats on Tuesday.
Is it the first duty of the American government to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens?
Rubber Stamp Rudy provided three choices: Yes, No, and Unsure.
Let me answer for you, Rudy: NONE OF THE ABOVE.
A president’s first duty is to comply with the Constitutional oath he took on January 20, 2025. But instead of adhering to the law, this president has (so far) violated the 1st, 4th, 5th, 10th, and 14th Amendments. That’s not just a distant legal concern. Every violation takes away your rights, your power, and your prosperity.
Facts matter, Rudy. The Constitution matters.
The president and his administration blame the killing of Rene Good and Alex Pretti on the victims. They were American citizens, and Trump not only failed to protect them, but he encouraged violence against American protesters exercising their 1st Amendment rights. As of today, Trump’s administration has not arrested or charged any federal law enforcement officer with their murders. In other words, Trump protects murderers.
Trump’s failure to serve and protect Americans is now etched in history, just as the Republicans like Rudy Yakym are about to be history for shirking their responsibilities to their constituents.
Based on the facts, no reasonable American citizen can expect Trump or Rudy to serve or protect them.
