Accountability and Ethics Reform

The President of the United States and members of Congress must be beyond reproach. The Constitution is not a set of suggestions; it is a binding covenant that protects our rights as Americans, and violations of it must be answered.

From the top down, Washington has proven that we need robust, codified ethics reform to ensure our government answers to the people, not to itself.

The Problem

The American people have lost faith in federal institutions

Washington has allowed partisan loyalty to come before constitutional accountability. In a system that relies solely on impeachment to check presidential overreach, a divided Congress guarantees that a president’s party will protect them from justice. No one is above the law, and we cannot tolerate candidates or officials who treat criminal behavior as a tool to secure power.

We cannot tolerate a system where the fox guards the henhouse

Right now, ethics investigations are largely self-policed by partisan committees within Congress, allowing politicians to shield their allies from accountability while weaponizing rules against their political opponents. Norms and shame cannot be our guardrails; we need objective, nonpartisan oversight to restore public trust.

This hyperpartisan culture has opened our doors to outside influence

While Washington insiders look the other way, foreign adversaries are actively buying up land around our critical infrastructure and military installations, treating American soil as a commodity. True accountability means drawing a hard line: public service is a trust, not a business venture, and our government must be insulated from both domestic corruption and foreign encroachment.

Proposed, Actionable Solutions

I propose we introduce a comprehensive ethics bill in Congress to codify the behaviors we expect from the people we trust with power.

Ban Insider Trading in Washington

Pass comprehensive legislation banning members of Congress, the Senate, and the Executive Branch from buying or selling individual stocks, mandating that all personal assets be placed in blind trusts.

Establish an Independent Federal Ethics Commission

Create a centralized, nonpartisan watchdog board with full subpoena power to investigate ethics violations across all branches of government. To prevent backroom cover-ups, all investigation reports must be made available to the public, and criminal referrals to the Department of Justice must be tracked transparently.

Strip Corrupt Pensions

Ensure that any elected official convicted of a crime while in office immediately forfeits their taxpayer-funded federal pension and benefits.

Why This Matters for Hoosiers

Hoosiers work hard, play by the rules, and expect their leaders to do the same. When Washington elites use public office to enrich themselves, shield themselves from criminal accountability, or sell off American land to foreign adversaries, it erodes the foundation of our republic.

Restoring trust means giving power back to the constituents. By implementing strict financial firewalls, punishing corruption, and defending our national security interests from foreign influence, we can help ensure that Indiana’s voice is never drowned out by federal bureaucracy or corporate greed.
